This is one of my best finds ever. It’s a first real gun find for me. I have found toy pistols before.
Found in Western Maryland at the site of a cavalry battle as part of the Retreat from Gettysburg.
Found in a farm field. Read as iron 6” deep and probably has been passed over by many before me. As good signals are getting fewer I started digging all iron and found this 1840-1863 European style boot pistol. It has an octagonal barrel. It was found cocked and ready to fire on the Confederate side of the battlefield. I have been soaking it in evaporust and light sanding. It’s been slow process but starting to look pretty good. 6A843FA2-6730-47A0-BB65-9C5A2A2F0E9D.jpeg60425480-EC54-454D-A560-C85190A962CA.jpegADB544B3-1075-4DB1-8B8E-C6C0B8334A63.jpeg6BCC0FB1-56A6-44B2-8733-1B16932CD714.jpeg

Cmthunder, that is both a Great save and Restoration on the boot pistol. You have this displayed very nice. Well Done. Thanks for sharing this with us.

And this is why I dig large iron . The guys who keep on walking are missing out on some very collectible relics. not all of them will be horseshoes and plow points. nice recovery , thanks for sharing.
