Can anybody give me info on these buttons I've found at a colonial site in NY State today? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1475189260.551458.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1475189280.098843.jpg

Man those are some nice buttons in great shape.

Those look like Rev War, Continental Army
New York 3rd Battalion pewters.

The smaller one looks like it might be a 2, but im not seeing that one in Alberts book.

You should ask the mods to change your title to: Rev War, Continental Army, New York 3rd Battalion pewters.
You would probably get way more hits, and some of the experts might check it out, and share more info than i can offer.

The near mint condition of the pewter is a bit concerning, as is the HM benchmark...may be repros, but hard to tell from the pictures. Here are the 3rd NY examples in Don's book20160929_192600.jpg If they are real it's an incredible find

I hope they are real for your sake, but if they are repros they could have been off of a coat of someone who does re-enactments.

Some really nice Revolutionary War artifacts have been found in the Poughkeepsie area.
Congrats on your finds.

Very cool finds and I'm no expert, but the text does look different from the pics in the book. Still, I'd be pleased with those puppies. Repros or not. Congrats!

Fair chance they are from a reenactor's coat. Very little ground action and the designs are a little different. Lots were made in the 1970's for the bicentennial. The maker's mark on the back are telling. Originals were not marked that way.
