I found this button half, at one of many of Modern Miners newest Civil war sites.

I`ve looked at sooooo many buttons on-line.
I even dreamed about it last night. ??? ??? ???

Thanks for everyones 2 cents in advance.
Whatcha Think?

Maybe i should rephrase my question.

Does anyone recognize this as a confederate or union button soldiers button?

I havent been able to find any civil war buttons with this kind of design on the reverse.

Could've been used as a replacement for a uniform when buttons were scarce, or on another piece of clothing--or on previous occupation of a site (perhaps a house there somewhere...) or any of the civilians that followed troops around, or slaves following Union troops with hopes of freedom, or ladies in waiting...

It isn't specifically a military-issued button. Doesn't mean it wasn't worn by someone who fought, just much less likely. I've found plain, flat buttons in camps too... But I've also found musketballs, earlier relics and buttons, wheat pennies, etc... so the context helps, but it isn't the end of the story.

Thanks BuckleBoy and fortbball9.

I`ll be able to sleep a little better now.
There is a house less than a quarter mile away but the civil war relics have been popping up everywhere in a 2 mile radius.
This info is useful to Modern Miner and Bob as well.

Did every unit of soldiers have there own set of groupies :icon_scratch:
I have heard of union soldiers not to far from here killing all of a homeowners chickens for dinner :-\
Do ya suppose they where feeding the masses?

I've got a few with similar backmarks. All were found at sites that yielded relics from the late 1700's - mid 1800's. My guess would be around 1800. Too early to be Civil War related. Nice find.

Did you know theres an Ivan Reitman movie made with the name Evolution? Comedy ;D

I found this site that shows a pile of flat buttons about 3/4 of the way down the page with one resembling mine.
I feel like i`m on Crusaders territory now. :icon_pirat:
I`m guessing 1493-1763.
