Welcome Aboard
CindyOrr! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country)...

Welcome! Colorado probably has more professional treasure hunters than Florida.

Successful ones, anyway.

What are you interested in? Metal detecting and coin shooting? Cache hunting? Prospecting for gold and silver? Relics? Or?

Post a bit about your interests and you'll get some good information here.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

CindyOrr:

Since you are in Colorado, a good little work to start with is Colorado's Lost Gold Mines & Buried Treasure by Caroline Bancroft (1961 – Reprinted many times since). Here are brief accounts of some well-known, and some not-so-well-known prospects and plants.

Successful treasure hunters will find more fruitful clues in Caroline Bancroft’s many other historical publications.

Interesting readings are Golden Treasures of the San Juan, by Temple H. Cornelius and John B. Marshall (1961) and Sheepherder’s Gold by Temple H. Cornelius (1964), along with Perry Eberhart’s Treasure Tales of the Rockies (1961 – 3rd, Revised Edition 1972). These accounts are best used as examples of what remains to be found.

If you want to hunt the Reynolds’ Gang loot, start with Hands Up; Or, Twenty Years of Detective Life in the Mountains and On the Plains… by David J. Cook (1882 – often reprinted including in the excellent Western Frontier Library)

Those who want to become finders rather than hunters learn to develop their own clues. Veteran th’ers recommend the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) Great Depression-era state and, for many areas, local guides. These were written by professionals paid by the U.S. Government to recount the history and the lore.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

Based on her other post I think she's more of a picker.
