i found this a few weeks ago when the rio grande was very very low. it was wedged in some rocks. it is kinda like a giant salt shaker. i still have not checked what kind of metal it is, its silverish, im sure no precious metals, no rust and has been submerged for some time. the lid was stuck on when i found it and was full of mud and the little freshwater clams found in the river. its about 7 inches tall, the lid pops in and out and has little holes placed in it, im thinking some sort of chumming device, anyone have any ideas?

I believe it is a bait bucket, but not for crickets. The opening is way to large for crickets. If you were to open it to get a cricket out you would let half the bucket out. It looks more like a minnow or leech bucket.

The reason I know they don't work well for bait is that I had one and my boyfriend decided it would be perfect for keeping worms in on his boat. He said after an hour the worms started looking like jerky and when he tried cooling the canister off in the lake he lost his grip and it sank like a rock. Soooooo, no bait , no fish and he had to buy me another grease canister ( I think they are mandatory here in Alabama) LOL

About the only type of grass you find out here would make the crickets really MELLO!
(probably would hop funny too.)

p.s., hey we do have grass here in the SW, it just might not be as lush as the east coast's, you for sure dont wanna walk through it bare foot, cause you probally will get stuck by a goathead, i hate those
