i found this a few weeks ago when the rio grande was very very low. it was wedged in some rocks. it is kinda like a giant salt shaker. i still have not checked what kind of metal it is, its silverish, im sure no precious metals, no rust and has been submerged for some time. the lid was stuck on when i found it and was full of mud and the little freshwater clams found in the river. its about 7 inches tall, the lid pops in and out and has little holes placed in it, im thinking some sort of chumming device, anyone have any ideas????

Is it heavy or lightweight? Maybe pewter or aluminum? Could you guess? No markings of any kind,I guess? Could be for crickets......then again maybe not.Need more info.

my guess is an early version of a minnow bucket where a fisherman kept his minnows....( for bait) and when he got to the lake/ river he would put the bucket in the water so the minnows would getoxygen from the water and stay alive longer........hope this helps and HH

There would have to be a handle or somewhere to tie a rope so you don't lose it.

Hmmm... a cricket box?
:o ;D ;D lol! Probably.FOR FISHING THOUGH AND NOT THE ORIENTAL KIND FOR LISTENING.It COULD OF HAD A WIRE LOOP AROUND THE NARROW PART OF THE RIM WITH ANOTHER WIRE HANDLE LOOPED AROUND THE TOP FOR CARRYING.LIKE AN OLD MINNOW BUCKET.Whoops, sorry for cap letters!Definitely not for chum. Chong?

Not a minnow bucket, but a cricket box. There aren't enough holes in it for a minnow bucket and the holes would be in the sides. A cricket box on the other hand.... just needs to keep a cricket in.

Seems awfully "fancy" for fishing item.

I've checked sprouting container and kitchen canisters.

So far no luck. But, this is one of those items that's on the tip of my tongue, actually, brain. I know I have seen that type of lid, just can't place it and it's driving insane.
