Wow, my first post on Tnet and I get a link to a cartoon! Really? Anyway, this rock is about the size of a junior football that's been flattened at one end and weighs 11lbs. It has what appears to be a crust and regmaglypts. It's also just slightly magnetic. I've been a rock hound since I was a very young boy and I have never come across anything like this.
If you really think you have a meteorite, take it to the geology professor at your local college or university. I have found a lot of L4-L5 chondrites, and my opinion is you have a terrestrial rock. Of course, ALL of my ex-wives would disagree with me - Good Luck!
Thanks Terry. It also sets my MD off, but I had to crank her all the way up. When i filed a small window and did the ceramic test it did not leave any kind of mark so i was thinking it might be an LL and was hoping for a variety of opinions before I take it somewhere. Thanks again
I can't get a good pic of the window but its a lighter gray with metallic dots, not flakes. The crust also appears much darker in person than on film and I can actually flake it off with my finger nail in a couple of spots. If it is a chondrites it's definitely ancient.
