This past weekend I came across this little pipe at a moving sale and I just couldn’t leave without it. There was a very unique variety of ethnic objects but somehow this one just stood out the most.
It appeared fairly old so I took the 10 dollar gamble and brought it home. Like the title reads, it’s a water pipe for tobacco (not opium) and comes with a small carrying vessel with tobacco container and tweezers. I believe it’s missing another “tool” but not sure what that might be.
What I’m struggling with is decoding the base of the water pipe and lid of the the tobacco. Google lens has deciphered some of it but I think it’s a literal translation with no context.
The age of it also has me guessing since they were popular in the mid 1800s to early 1900s. No numbers pulled up on the translation so I’m hoping somebody here could point out what I’ve missed.
The little jade carvings are a bit more modern and I don’t think those have any value aside from decorative.
