Now that I think about it, the chances of a Chinese Cash coin on an 18th century Spanish ship would be slim, as you pointed out.(I think). These occasional cash coin finds on the Florida beaches would more likely be from another source. We have IDed it but guessing were it came from would be only speculation and sometimes our imaginations can run wild. Next time I am in Sebastian, I will ask the museum curator.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :)

The coin was found at surf's edge during TS Hanna in NE Florida. It either was there for a long time and the storm removed sand or was washed up from the water. It was 7-9-inches deep.

I just looked back on this old post and I think I know what you were trying to say. The Chinese cash coins found on our Florida beaches could be from the English.

spanish also used them as trade items with indains who could use em as decrotive items as well as melting the down for metal for tools --- since the chinese cash coins were so cheap in asia the spanish most likely got them in bulk for their scrap metal value .---- much of the fine made royal items (crowns and such) were made by chinese or asian jewelsmiths who were master metal workmen) these were brought from the phillipines to mexico by the manila galleons --transshipped from west coast mexico to east coast mexico overland by mule train the reloaded upon treasure ships --who later on stopped in havana then head back to spain. --thiis is for very old cash coins *

now for more modern american / britsh colonial era say --- early to mid 1700 these coins could come from old whaling ships or opium traders or from chinese labors being brought in as both workers and teachers to teach the african slaves how to "properly" work the "rice plantions" like the one kingsley ran.
