Dug this kewl ring this morning at a battlefield site in Spotsylvania,Virginia that we have permission to hunt before they turn it into a subdivision (what's new right?) I don't know if this could be from a child that was a drummer or flag boy but it makes you wonder.. don't know, I can only wonder.. Is that a Texas star on it? Not sure.. I enjoyed digging it and got a thrill regardless if it is Civil War or not.

Nice, I love those personal items that make you wonder.

Wow. That is really an awesome find! Especially given where it was found. Just to think that it might've belonged to a drummer/bugle boy from the very battle! Fascinating!

HH!

Looks like it would be uncomfortable to wear after a while though with the star's points. Wonder if they took it off and then lost it accidentally?

Wonderful find, Hut!

What size is it? Do you know the material?

I think a drummer would be inclined to take that off while playing...

Hard to believe they were that young...next time my lads bug me for a PlayStation, I'll flash this photo!

Here's a wiki-history that might appeal to your boys, Edward: John Lincoln Clem

My great great great great grandfather was killed at Spotslvania. He was is the 22nd NC Infantry Co. B. I've always wanted to visit there and I'd love to detect there. His body is somewhere on the battle ground. I love to see any relics from the battle and any that i see on ebay from there I try to buy! Awesome find though!!! Thanks for sharing and reminding us of the fallen and our ancestors

See he said they where gonna turn it into a subdivision and you mention your 4x great grandfathers body is somewhere on they field aint no way in hell im living in a house their. Cool find on the ring though

SCDiggin - Do you know what battle he was killed in Spotsy.. Battle of chancellorsville? spotsylvania? wilderness? etc . Lot of battles happen in Spotsy. Are you sure he is not buried @ the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg? . Depending on which battle he died @ he may be buried at one of the cemeteries in Fredericksburg or Spotsylvania. If you ever want me to try and locate his grave send me a PM. Hopefully he was wearing some sort of ID or had letters with him when he was killed depending on what battle. He could be buried in a un-marked grave also.

Man we have tried a lot but it would make my grandfathers day to know more (he loves genealogy) we've tried a lot but all results lead to an unmarked grave. He was even shot in the head at Gettysburg and survived. I asked a Gettysburg historian and he told me the exact road he was shot on and by what specific landmark. Ill send you a PM!

Lol me neither!

That is amazing stuff SCDiggin. He would have been killed @ the Battle of Spotsylvania or Battle of Wilderness which were after the Battle of Gettysburg! His regiment would have been fighting with the Army of Northern, Virginia under General Lee! There are lot of confederates buried from all the battles in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania and even some buried in Stafford. Lot are not documented through internet resources you have to actually go to the graveyard and look. So if you want me to I just need his name and I can look up all the info on him and which cemetery he might be in.

Love the little ring Hut Site Digger,an amazing find. I remember several years back a national builder getting in hot water buying up land in Virginia that was part of a battlefield but don't remember the details.
