Looks like it just came out of the mint man that is one fine coin great find
Gary G.A.P.metal

In fact, it looks better than any coin that came out of the mint back then.

Facsimile coin. Sorry.

Its real, Neil.
/////////////////// Jours 1/2 was same or better conditions, I think is about AG alloy for that issue , I just keep coin in dirt cluster ( forg. water bottle ) , and Im happy , after dry out , not have any damage .

Then why would he press a clump of earth on it like he did? ;D

Hahaha! I wish I would've filmed him dig it. I knew people would say things like this due to its great condition. Hopefully theres more at this site, and I'll make sure to video tape any other significant finds. Seems like if you don't have "video" proof and perhaps a "live" dig, there will always be someone out there to rain on the parade.

I guess I was a little harsh in my assessment. It just looks so...perfect!

It is a great find, and I would definitely be proud of it!

That's amazing. I'm not too many minutes from Chi Town. I have to wonder how it got there.

Passing through Ft. Dearborn, perhaps?

That coin looks like it was in the ground longer than an 1880 Silver Dollar I found when I was a youngster after my Dad plowed along our driveway on the farm, the dollar was shiny, no blackening, maybe being buried in black Iowa dirt was a factor. I have an 1889 that has never been in the ground and it is blackened. I think soil type and metals content has something to do with it. But not being a metalurgist, I can't really say.

wow what a coin, and great shape noce find

Mr. S

THAT IS A BANNER FIND FOR THIS AREA...

Jon told me about it on the phone I was amazed at the story..
You are your game...I hope the rest of the season is as good....

Congrats on that BANNER FIND......

Given some of Mr. Senior's history of finding fine metal stuff not just in Chicagoland but around half the world, I'm never surprised at your digs, just constantly wowwed!

Keep 'em coming!
