Modern "bowtie" used to identify Chevy product and Chrysler pendant, probably contemporary as well. The oil tag pre dates product name "Pennzoil" so it's probably from the 20s or 30s? Monty

At one time, yearrrrrs ago, a car owner could buy first refined and RE-refined oil in glass jars similar to mason jars. That tag you have just MIGHT have been strung on a piece of wire; wrapped around the neck of the jars for IDing a brand of RE-refined oil. That was back when fuel stops were called service stations. ;D

Does Purepenn have anything to do with Pennzoil?
In the late 1880's, one of Rockefeller's Standard Oil companies, that came to be know as South Penn was born after it discovered the first billion-barrel oil field--in southern Pennsylvania. In the 1960s, "Penn's Oil" changed it's name to Pennzoil. Where did Purepenn fit in?

I think Purepenn was the Pure Penn Petroleum Company that went b/k in the early 50s.

JCat - not sure about the oil tag but those emblems are old. Chevy has been using the bow tie since it's inception and the Chrysler one has been brought back as of late.

The pics are lousy but you can still see them. The Chevy is from a '30s model and the Chrysler is from around the '40s...

By a quick Google search, Purepenn was a trademark of the Union Oil Company of Los Angeles, CA. Sure looks like a tag off the old oil bottles. I think they are still in business as Union-76.
