Found in a farm field today along with a fatty Indian Head (1859) and a Masonic suspender clip, but this so far remains a mystery. It is thin copper or brass, 1 1/2" x 2". Looks to me like a boy or cherub riding a billy goat, another boy/cherub holding the goat's halter, while another boy stands behind, supporting the one on the goat. No sign of ever being a pin or anything else on the backside. Any ideas? Any background information either on the object or on the story behind the boys with the goat (I suspect it is some mythological reference)

That piece definitely ranks high on the "odd" list. .. no offense.

You should clean it a bit more with warm soapy water and repost...

looks like the goat OR ram... or whatever the heck it is... is on mushrooms... errr...

or maybe the person who made this piece was on mushrooms... but none the less this almost looks um...

eerie comes to mind.

That's about as clean as it is going to get, I'm afraid. It is also about as straightened out as its going to get. It was all mangled up. I slllllllowly and gentttttly straightened it out enough to make out what the images are, although I did get a little stress crack. (I found some posts here earlier tonight about heating it in boiling water before straightening, but it was too late for that)

Iron Buzz, looks like you're on the right track w/ the related things - as far as figuring out the back story. As far as what it is, it might still be some sort of brooch and the pin was on the missing piece(s). Might also be a lid to a box. Whatever it turns out to be - it is unique.

Damn, Mike... you hit the bloody nail on the head there!! It is the exact scene... just in a different form. Mine has the rectangular frame around it, and seems to be smaller, but that is the design. I was able to find a lot of similar scenes, but that one nails it!

Ahhh... yeah, makes sense. The innocents playing around with the horny one. A moral story. Thanks.
