GTP, I think all of these pieces are from North Carolina. I also think what you are saying is a Clovis is actually a Stemmed Point with one corner broken off. At least that's what I'm seeing. The Faces and the Discs looked like repros or tourist items to me and the Pendant doesn't look right either. I would be afraid of everything in that tray actually since I believe he said on another forum that these were bought and not found. Most of the other stuff looks good and the one you are calling a San Patrice is probably a Hardaway.

im not arguing with you or insulting your knowledge at all but in the early 70's i was told artifacts weren't that popular or worth any large amounts of money (also this is just what i heard i really dont know) so in my mind if it wasn't worth a lot of money why would someone take the time to make repros of them.

He's saying that people went to great lengths to make a sale. Even repros of "worthless" pieces of Indian history. I'd take them to an expert and get them checked before you make any serious decisions about what you want to do with them. I wouldn't take them to a museum as they will want to know about a lot of history behind them, and in the end will probably offer you way lower than what they may be worth(if they are authentic). My Dad got ripped off by a museum a while back when he let them "hold onto" a piece he was trying to have priced. They never gave it back and since he didn't go through the legal procedures to ensure honesty was maintained he was ripped off. Bottom line, be careful. I'd probably just frame them like your grandfather did.

I hope you don't mind but I copied your photo's to point out some of the pieces you have. The one point you have in the one photo is nice. Looks like a San Patrice. The frame to the right if these are all authentic they are worth alot. The two points circled in yellow the one directly at 9 o'clock is a Clovis. If it is authentic it is worth anywhere from several hundred to maybe $1200. I cannot see the one above it to really tell if it is clovis. It does have paleo form to it. The one point circled at 5 o'clock looks to be a possible plainview or meserve. The clay effigy figures could be broken pot handles. If they are actual effigies then they could be worth several hundred. The discoidals range in price those are circled at 12 o'clock........There is probably a thousand plus sitting in that one frame. That is if they are authentic. I'm guessing you live in either Oklahoma, Texas or Missouri...................hope this helps you.......................GTP

yeah that does help gives me some names to research through google

ckenley, I have an artifact book that was printed in the late 1800's that has an entire chapter dedicated to fakes and repros so it has been a problem for a long time. Anytime people think they can make a buck on something there will be fakes made to sell to the collecting community.

Wow thats crazy, so all this research lately got me wantin to go hunting for some points I did some research on a 1700 map and I live right next to a catawaba indian tribs land I was thinkin about searching all the rivers around my house

ok....Sohio I just got a blister following that tangent.

Blah blah blah? Really........ wow I thought a forum for artifacts wouldn't have douche bags but I guess its just like every other forum out there
