We got blown off this hill last time with bad weather, so we went back today to finish it. It was always a very long shot & we were hoping for just 1 Celtic Find.(out of this very choppy ploughed & sticky land) After 3 hours of nearly nothing & on my very last run of the day, I got the game changer!

1683 Maundy Fourpence or Groat of Charles II.
This was a Maundy issue & is a scarce find. I have a Charles II 1 & 2 pence but I've never had a 4 of any King. Most of these Maundy coins (the smaller ones) I find are holed. Because they were given out on Holy Thurday by the King (who some thought had divine rule), they were treasured by the poor. The King was the closest thing to God & they would hole this for wearing. This gave them protection from the evil eye. 4 was the highest denomination & out of the 4 coin set, I would have thought the poor would spend it, keeping the smaller change. 4 pence was a lot of money back then, just to keep you safe.(maybe a weeks food)
