Although it has a Celtic look (mainly made popular by modern commercialisation), it seems a closer match to the Saxon or Anglo-Sandinavian Urnes style or strapends from the Saxon period 7th-9th century.

No idea what it is used for other than a decorative piece.

crusader that's what I was thinking. & of course my active imagination had the piece from the vikings that came over to the new world & settled in Canada. but it is in such good shape, can't imagine it being that old. still it is a great piece, I would take it to a college & see if they could ID it.

Sorry didn't make myself very clear. I don't think its that old just that the design is copied from that period.

Crusader, no, I wasn't saying you were saying it was that old, just saying I have an active imagination. but as I said, it is in too good a shape to be that old. still wouldn't it be nice?
