Metal Detecting
I wandered around these woods on and off the last year and finding a few indians, 1937 quater, a few D buckles, 2 1920s dog license tags, key hole, broach, silver luckenbooth broach part and seemingly randomly scattered coppers and colonial buttons here and there. I finally found the source of the colonial items and there was a surprise in the cellar hole. What I'm pretty sure is a Cannon ball. It was a foot down. Still in its rust bath but it's coming up.

Funny part is I was so close all this time. Tons of buttons here. None of the flat buttons have any back marks . So am I correct to assume site was in use through revolutionary war? Only coin in hot zone is a drapped bust. Lot of pottery bits mixed in along with black glass bottle base that appears to have pontail mark on it.

I lumped finds from hot zone and surrounding area made in last 2 weeks together in one photo so a few things are getting reposted.

Any clue on the 2 halves of the finial? It rang in pretty low. And the plate by ceramic knob item is??

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Nice colonial relics ! The 2 finial pieces are 18th century leather ornaments, likely horse tack.

The coppers look like heavily-worn and then corroded British halfpennies that I have found. A lot of them were worn out in England, and then shipped to North America to be further used in the colonies, I have read. Sometimes I have been able to ID them and sometimes there just is no detail there.

Some have an identity. One is a drapped bust, one A US large cent though I can only read the one cent side, one all I can see is 1775. Last one in photo worn out. Others not in post like you said corroded and worn out. Was a worn farthing in there. Theory about sending the worn out stuff makes sense. Have yet to fund anything British is USA that has good detail.

Very nice finds. Congratulations

Mostly clean. Oxalic acid soak for a few weeks, wire brush, soak and some electrolysis. Still has to be brushed a little more and acid bath for tiny bit of remaining rust.

Weight is 6 pounds.

Diameter is 3.4 to 3.5 inches on calipers.

Few holes drilled in top? It has a face ha!
