Let the season begin. I suppose it started back in January for me but this warmth and sun is something crazy for us here in Northern Indiana
Don and I already dug a smaller pit/trash pit really and came up with a hutch bottle and that's all she wrote for that one. Then we decided to give a shot at the obvious pit under the garage floor. The thing was caving in and the cement was cracked and drooping. A tell tale sign of a privy down below. So we dug a small hole to see if we were right. Yep, pulled out a couple small bricks and a broken Chicago Table Beer. So it was on to the complete excavation. We knew that we were in for one heck of a hole because we had to dig the outer edge down 6 feet then move under the garage cement floor. Would it be worth it
Got down about 4 feet underneath and found a broken straight sided coke Then broken stuff after broken stuff But we finally were able to grab up a Hutchinson bottle and then another and another. After we felt like we were digging a new cellar hole underneath the floor we finally hit bottom which was less than we expected. But on the way back up we did pull out a nice straight sided coke and a nice amber mineral water that's a bit more rare than the norm. So it ended nicely but now we had to take Mount Olympus and put it back in the privy....WOW That's a whole bunch of dirt. Like digging two pits for the exhaustion of one! It was a good workout and what the heck, we are usually still shoveling snow this time of year! Come one Global Warming, but not too warm
It was a decent start to the season and better things will come as the season progresses. Goodluck out there everyone and stay safe as always. jgas
