CCC Camps

Hi Superduty: Just found your Post. I have been in the CCC camp in the State Forest, union County, They don't have a problem with metal detecting, I have a Permit for there & Giant City park,, the CCC Camp in the union state Forest was behind the forestry Buildings, Not in the park itsself, there are a few foundations left, but alot of that area in the CCC camp has been Bulldozed, I only spent maybe 30 minutes in the CCC Camp, didn't find anything except copper pipe pieces, but, I would think some coins would be there somewhere. The Park is a Challenge since it has been hunted so much, but im sure there are some finds left for those that have patients. There is probably a million pulltabs in that park. Straight across the blacktop from the dip where ya go into the park there use to be a Huge old Two story House, it was between the two large tree's just to the west of that barn, I done well there, found a double hand full of 1930's & 40's Silver, a friend found a silver Half, some merc's, & wheat pennies there on another hunt, another site is on west of the park on the blacktop, past the forestry buildings on the nort side of the road is a old housesite also, haven't spent to much time there yet, I don't ever remember seeing a house there, guess it has been gone for years. might be a good spot.

Cool link, Thanks! I had no idea there were so many camps. My great grandfather was involved in the CCC, I only know this because I have an old home movie of him driving a black car with "ccc" on the side of it. But don't know anything else. This may spur me to investigate a little more.

You can write, and get his whole folder, it has all kinds of info, plus a copy of his signature...My Dads was about 10 pages...list education, adresses, parents names, hobbys, and the kind of work they did, and the amount of pay......Really cool stuff if you do family history like I do, or just want to know...I can dig out the adress in the next few days if anyone wants....Tom

Man groundshaker, sure wish I was near there, I would give it a try....Never can tell what ya might find from the 30's, and 40's there..
