Got some more keepers from my cavalry camp today and saw a lot of interesting wild life to boot. During my first hour there I about detected on top of a roosting turkey hen. I didn't see her and she didn't fly off until I was almost on top of her. Scared me to death. She had twelve eggs laying there. Wow, I didn't know they produced that many at once. This place also has the most colorful box turtles that I have ever seen and the woods seem to be infested with them. I see another one almost every half hour. I think I saw twelve yesterday and I interrupted a special moment between two of them. He looks indignant in the picture and she seems to be mortified.
I was beeping around the area where I found the epaulette parts and got another signal and pulled out another scale key part. That makes a complete set of four. There was a lot of vines and dead trees laying around right there, but I knew there had to be other goodies lurking. I kicked aside a rotten tree and got a loud signal right under it. That's when I pulled out another beautiful Connecticut button. That does it I said. I put my detecting gear aside and commenced to nearly defoliate the area, pulling up many vines and such and hauling away multiple dead trees. I cleared out a good twenty foot square area and it paid off. Five feet from the first button, out came ANOTHER Connecticut. That makes three for this site now. Eight feet from that I managed a general service cuff button in great shape. The coat general service one came from the same camp but about 50 yards away.

I also came away with some more Spencers, Colt rounds, and a broken Burnside. Too bad I haven't been able to find one of those intact. That's the only Burnside I have seen in this area so far. Also found part of a saddle strap accessory and a brass wedding band. Not a bad haul for the day. I never did make it to the old house site that I discovered there last week. I pretty much stayed around the camp all day making my way through the thick foliage. Enjoy the pics and vids.

Oh yeah, the picture of the Lion Head Rosette is from another site not related to this one, but did have troop movement through it. It may be from the civil war or it may be civilian. Pretty neat rosette though.

This is probably the best post I have seen here overall.
Good show, sir.

Great finds!! The wildlife pictures are great too!! Well done!! :occasion14:

Great Post! Very nice buttons! You are definitely out there for the right reasons.

BBQD,

Nice lot of buttons! The soil has been good to them for a century and a half.

I was in the Shenandoah Valley with detecting buddies in early March. We were near Bentonville. We got on top of a high ridge near the highway an dug LOADS of bullets - including some complete Sharps. Hoping to get back out there soon. It is beautiful country.

wow nice finds wildlife and all. I found one of those scale clips years ago but didn't know what it was till I saw a thread on here

Awesome finds and nice variety of buttons to boot !

Awesome finds!
I have to agree on those turtles, I don't think I've seen any that bright here in Minnesota. :)

Great post! Love relics and the wildlife. Nice Connecticut buttons.

Now if you could dig a Connecticut copper AND a Connecticut button in the same day......

Good post. Love the buttons and the critters.

Great finds. I agree with the comments on the wildlife pics. Prefect addition to the post. Any engraving inside the ring?
No, I was hoping there would be. I have yet to find any personal items that I can trace back to an individual. That's at the top of my bucket list. Thanks everyone, the site has been really good to me so far but as thick as it is in there now, I think I'll have way better luck come winter when all of the foliage is down. I need a D R trimmer/mower or agent orange to clear the place out.

Ah, interrupted turtle-love! Great finds, excellent photos both quality of finds, and the photos themselves.
And your avatar is killer!
Carl
