Looks like my lucky string of hunts where I was making an exceptional find just about every time out has come to an end (hopefully temporarily). Looks like for now I've settled into digging relics of a more routine nature (flat buttons, bullets, buckle pieces, etc), and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I guess I'm going to need to find a couple new sites before the season wraps up here in the next few weeks. With the warm winter the weeds are already growing in the fields and planting will begin earlier than normal, so I'd better get myself in gear so I can finish strong down the home stretch. Good luck and HH to all.

some good stuff! I like the thimble and buckles. congrats

When you're digging relics from the time frame those items represent, an exceptional find can be right around the corner.

Very nice finds and great saves! I am curious about the small piece of metal at the top of your pic that appears to have been broken off of a larger circle and has the "IM" stamp on it......any idea what this could be a part of?

out of curiosity, what does one do with finds like those? i'm looking to get my first detector soon and i can see with coins and jewelry you either keep it or sell it depending on how much you like it. but what does one do with a bunch of old buttons and such?

Some of the relic items are of little or no value to anyone except the person that went to the effort of digging a good signal from his/her detector. Even then, they are mostly things that are stuck in a box with others of the same ilk. Others, like tokens, or keys, or harmonica reeds, etc. can all have value to the right collector. Regarding buttons, however, there are some that have value to collectors. It would depend on their age, one or two piece, condition, manufacturer, rarity, etc. You would probably be somewhat awed by how beautiful some of the dug items can actually be when placed under glass and in a frame. Then again, you, being the one that went to the trouble of digging the items, may be the only one that can see this beauty. ;D

I would be happy with that, nice finds. What is the round thing to the left of the thimble with the 10 tabs on? I have dug a couple of them before.

Nice button finds bill.

Suprized with that many buttons you don't have a few spanish silver on that pyle.

If it is threaded on the inside, it is what I refer to as a spanner nut. You will see them commonly used to hold wiring clamps in an electrical breaker box.

Great haul!

Nice relics! I agree that the stamped brass piece is interesting. The CW era knapsack hook is a great find. I wouldn't imagine that too many of those turn up in the places you usually hunt.

Cheers,

Buckles
