Moving to the Carson City area in the near future. Anyone know of gold in the area. Any gold in the Carson River around Dayton?

A great place to start is the state bureau of mines & geology (the name varies from state to state - however, I believe all 50 have one). Have you looked at:

Assuming you're interested in placer gold, there's the classic Placer Gold Deposits of Nevada by Maureen G. Johnson - reprinted many times. Some editions have a dandy map, as well.
Remember to always seek permission from the proper landowner - and almost every claim and mine still has an owner!
