For those that contacted me via the "what is it" section, some photo's from the site in the Caribbean we have been working for the last couple of years. At the moment we are talking with a governement in the Caribbean to open a museum there as a tourist attraction. It will cover the whole piracy era, re-create a dig and go on to cover the whole history of the region from Pre Columbus with several thousand original exhibits. From our site we have found many crosses, coins, pottery pieces and object from everyday life. The site appears to be some sort of semi-permanent camp used by pirates or traders around the early 1700's. The first picture is me in a defensive ditch that goes around 3 sides of the site. There will be a series of books to to with the museum using original artifacts to illustrate them, they are written and due to be printed later in the year.

I hope the best for you and yours.

A few more things from our site & for our museum display. We are aiming to be back over in the Caribbean in the next few months to find a suitable building for our collection to go on display. We have many thousands of original pieces and should be able to put together a real interesting place to visit if you are interested in this type of history.

photos above are a little bronze container, i guess its for a single charge of gunpowder unless its some sort of medicinal container ???? a carved bone cross dated 1715, a C17th wooden goblet, this is decorated with a very simple design of stamped circles with a dot in each. Rim has a chip on it but still a great piece. A medal? from the C17th showing Oliver Cromwell, it has a loop on the back that looks like its meant to have a ribbon to hang it. Group shot of a few of our little pieces, some of the bone dice we have found. A great C16 or C17th bone corpus, it was found in pieces so the arms have had to be re-affixed and a few coins exactly as they have come out of the ground. Not cleaned them but they look to be Spanish C17th bronzes.

Beautiful finds. :)

I agree. Fantastic find and posts. I'd love to see more!

The jaw bone made me think of another possibility also... could this in fact be a survivor camp from a shipwreck? The defensive trench makes me think probably no, but if they wrecked, salvaged everything they could from the ship, and died hoping someone would come pick them up....the result would be much the same. You may have a shipwreck just offshore.....just a thought.

Hi mates,

I get the same idea when i saw the bone cross, dated 1715!

@Hamilton,

many thanks for the link to this great forum! as you can see, I am also registered now and hope to have some fun here!

Regards

Tom

Thats some excellent finds mate! If I could find any of those bits I would be over the moon! ;D. Now if only there was some way of getting there to see this neat stuff ::)

Wait until Hamilton's series of books comes out. I've only seen two and they are great, short enough to read in one or two sittings, cheap enough to be purchased by anyone, and packed full of compelling info and beautiful pictures. I know they are close to being finished, and I'm sure he will let us know when they are available. Lubo's new book is quite a read as well, might be a good read while we wait for these to come out...plus I'm in the book so I know you'll ALL want to read it. LOL
