Cargo ship stuck/ containers washing ashore

And, again, pertaining to the looting, these are BMW motorcycles, street value between $7,000 and $15,000. The ship the container fell off of is well documented, these items BELONG to the manafacturers, or in the very least the insurance company. Not to mention the problems with trying to register the bikes, being stolen goods and all.
A far far cry from Doritos washing up in the OBX, which by the way the container couldn't be tracked.

Its good to see that not everyone in the world is so judgemental. ;D
I agree that what people have doing down there is disgraceful but i put it down to "group mentality" pure and simple. people are going down for a so called "freebie" but they have no understanding or knowledge of the law.
that said i believe the whole salvage operation could of been dealt with differently (im not saying they're doing a bad job) but in the case of the "APL Panama" which run aground in the port of esenada , security was incredibly tight. but the situation was different and it was being dealt with by different people, i do believe the beach should of been closed with much more security because listening to a swedish lady who was watching people take her family possesions from a beached container was not entirely pleasant. :-[

The chaps who took those motorcycles of the beach, gave in their names etc and said they hope the people who own them come forward to collect them..... Where they were standing they were getting destroyed very quickly..... good job to the rednecks ;D The same goes for a tractor and 4x4 that came of the same ship.... All is securely locked up in a garage, and the owners know exactly who has them..... That is not stealing, that is common sense....

God bless
Peter

Diggummup . If the containers were loaded with nulear material you are still welcome to it . You would not like the end result of your looting spree though ;D . Cornelius
I'm glad to see you agree that it is "looting". :)

Hi gang,
Great topic!

True treasure story washed up on the beach.

Well over 20 years ago, my college roommate found a Large Bag containing a green leafy substance on the beach in Florida. The contents of the bag were a little wet. So, he dried them out in his parent’s cabana and transported said leaves back to school after Christmas break. Having an abundance of the pretty leaves, we decided to offer them to fellow students for their craft projects. The only problem w/the leaves is that they had a HINT of mold taste/smell to them. However, they worked very well despite the mold issue. They were offered at discount prices due to water damage. That was a HIGH point in my college career.

Thankfully, I am much more mature and not interested in such crafts. But I love the thought of finding TREASURE.

A lot of the individuals are basically looting. I'm not going to tar everyone with the same brush but it does make you pretty sick to see people in South Africa watching their container not salvaged but being broken into and robbed.

The authorities should have been more proactive in sealing off the beach. News reports have been trying to show them in a better light by arguing that their priority has been to secure the Napoli and prevent any ecological disaster. Why they couldn't do both is beyond me - I can't believe that much police manpower is taken up offshore. By not sealing the beach not only have they displayed gross incompetence but have you guys seen the state of the beach itself?

My biggest gripe has been the complete lack of respect by looters (and authorities for allowing it to continue) for the beaches and water. Lots of these guys are coming from inland , taking what they want and leaving all their waste , discarded packaging etc.. I know all you guys who love the water are just as disgusted as me and I hope this whole sorry mess is sorted ASAP. Glad I got that off my chest!!!! Now back to real piracy!!!!!!

A new oak barrel of the size shown in the pics goes for around 600 last time I priced them. A labor intensive product to produce.

Cornelius, as I have stated to you before this is a large forum and I can't be all places for all people all the time. With that being said, you will notice that there is a little link at the bottom of each post "Report to Moderator", If you are truly concerned that something inappropriate is being posted, I besetch you to use this link. This will automatically generate a message to all three Moderators and to the Webmaster. Usually, but not always, one of us will be on line and able to react to your concerns. Otherwise, they will remain until one of us happens upon the item in question.

PS I find your allegation offensive! You appear to be taking it personal, that I was forced to delete some of your post in another thread.
I have PM'd you concerning this matter.
