I returned to the area I snagged a liberty cap last week. Felt good to get out after a 5 day busy spell. Anyhow, here are the finds.

My first Capped bust half-dime surfaced today. It felt great digging this surprise after being sure it was a flat button or rifle bullet. For you CTX buffs, it rang up exactly as a 12-32. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1495586290.109145.jpg

Also found a candle snuffer last Friday, same area. Thanks for the ID JoeyFresh;)

I'm happy to say this is my oldest US silver, ousting out my 1834 Capped dime. It's amazing how scarce the silver is from this period in the US. I've also hopefully located the homesite - a 15' x 20' iron patch surrounded by hundreds of acres.

Cheers everyone, and good digs!

Steve

First of all congrats on the silver, and for getting your oldest US silver! I would of thought that you had achieved this before this with all your site hunts, but it's a reminder on just how scarce the silver coinage from this period is. I was lucky enough to score a Capped half dime off my property a few years ago, it's one of those finds I'll always remember seeing the old toned silver coming out of the ground.

I've plenty of Spanish silver to fill the gaps, but yep, the US silver coinage is pretty rare up to the late 1830's. Most went overseas - Sad. Thanks for the comment bud

Cheers

I didn't know that about the silver going overseas. Learnt something today, thanks Scrappy.

Congrats Scrappy! New oldest US silver, wow.

My oldest US silver is... well, you know.

That's a nice looking one too. Cleaned up well.

I like the skeleton key too, just something about them gets me going.

Best of luck to you sir!

There has been a lot of Capped Bust coins lately, and it's been an excellent year for both of us. I'm so glad you found that Capped dime a month ago. I bet it's been tough getting back to Rosie's;) thx

Congrats Steve and welcome to the capped half dime club-there seem to have been a run on them lately here on TNet.

Another awesome hunt man :occasion14: Killer piece of silver. How do you tell the difference between a conestoga bell and a candle extinguisher bell? I'm sure size, wear and the attachment point of the bell.

The way to tell the difference? Haha, I text Bill and Joey! Lol.

That should have been the follow up question.

Keep at it, you'll find one soon I'm sure. And I agree: a few good finds is what keeps us all going. Thanks for looking and best of luck.

It sure looks like a bell to me me. If that was a snuffer, then I want to see the size of the candle it put out! So much misinformation gets thrown around here. I'm done with this place.......

WTG Scrappy! Huge congrats on a small but very old and significant silver!
Thx for the numbers, I have an Etrac.

I talked to an expert and it is, in fact, a diving bell for a mouse. They're called Djjangalangs...

Funny enough about the numbers. I had been digging high powered rifle bullets from the area that all ring up as the exact same number. I considered not digging it, just for a second;)
