anyone know what it's worth and what it was used for

Just note that your medal is issued by the Methodist Protestant Church. Broke off from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1828, mostly re-united in the The Methodist Church in 1939 (now the United Methodist Church). Nothing to back this up, but I suspect this was a much smaller organization than the Methodist Episcopal, which may make your piece somewhat scarcer. Just a guess!

Would really like to know how much it's worth. And how rare it is, meaning how many still are around today. I can't find any on line...

This medal has md on the back linking it to Maryland which I suspect it to be one of how many in existence? If I could find a professional in Methodist Church medals . And can get it graded and authentication. What I really would like to know is did I finally find a rare specimen? Or what? Because I'm not seeing any others for sale online. I know how it came to be as far as when and how. I'm trying to figure how many exists today? Millions or1 or 2. Is there a way to find out?
