Detector(s) used
bounty hunter discovery 1100
discovery 3000
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I found this it rang up as copper/silver on my detector so i dug it up and cleaned it off it looks to be a piece of n old brooch or pin or something of the sort. i see what kinda looks like a lilly flower or some find of design on it and i believe there is some gold plating on it also which can see some of it in pic. let me know what you all think. Can , you grove it with your finger nail?

Bob..... around PA,OH,MI, W VA.....I'm sure many other areas..... I was originally from Ohio. It is everywhere. Along RR. in yards, creeks, along old roads etc...

The steel mill areas had it everywhere! I'm not sure they even knew what to do with it! lol So, seeing that he is from PA, I'd bet it's recent(past 100years or so) And was dumped there. They used it like gravel. If it is slag, which it does look like.

You know none of us can be for sure what he has without personally examining it. And Mod . You don't know either. We are by nature wanting to be right. Some of us do anyway.

It's a clinker from an old coal furnace, forge or fireplace, growing up the alley behind my grandparents was practically paved with them. The "design" is there because it was at one time flowing like lava before it cooled. They commonly have some metal content which is why detectors hit on them.

Chevyman, I agree with the majority in that your find is the result of some type of liquid melted metal that has cooled/hardened and taken on the shape of whatever it fell upon. Whether its landing spot was on leaves, sticks, twigs, dirt, insects, etc. is the shaped it formed. Mother Nature can produce some interesting patterns, and like 'clouds,' we all can see different things.
