Can't Figure This One Out

Hello All. Found this tonight at a 1927 home site. It's about an inch across made of plated brass with a center post on the concave side and an 1895 patent date. Any ideas are welcome.

Taking a guess here...
Looks like a lid from a vintage bicycle lantern, or an early car or carriage light; old carbide lanterns had vented lids for fumes to escape ie the holes in your item

Good luck finding out what it is
