Man! Agreed!! Those folks could have disarmed it, and check it out! The people who brought the ball to them were part of the "Battlefield Association"! Now, make no mistake, ANYTIME one finds live artillery, it should only be dealt with by professionals! Still, it appears to have some sort of holes in and around the fuse area and those do NOT look natural! I sincerely hope someone didn't try to drill into it. Well, it is a shame to see such a pristine part of history gone, but just think, everyday that passes, old relics are disappearing below our feet, in the name of PRESERVING history for our children; at least we had the pleasure (all be it short lived) of looking at this piece before it was gone forever! Yes, that's a pretty unusual one--looks like brass rather than iron shot. :icon_scratch:

And it does look like someone polished it with a brass brush and tried to DRILL it! :o Not COOL, unless a water-cooled bit and tank...
