Hello All,

Well it's been a hot one here. We went out and dug in it, cause we couldn't stand ourselves. When the temps get to the mid 90s here, and the index into the 110s with no shade in the sugar cane rows, it's bad. The day just took it right out of us. We decided to start before first light, when it was in the upper 70s and felt like only 85. :-\ Targets were sparse, as we were finishing up an area where we had found a couple of good signs earlier. Normally on that type of hunt, one can't expect much, but often there is at least something good to recover from the fringe areas.

I picked up a brass cupboard key, musketball, pewter spoon handle, and some bits. Shanegalang dug a couple flat buttons including a really nice pewter one with a star on it.

Then I got a nice high tone, and popped out a silver.

I could tell that it was One Real sized, and so I started the camera rolling. The hunt video is here:

Turned out to be an 1815 One Real :headbang:

It was a great feeling to have an old silver in my pocket before 8am. That meant that the rest of the day's finds would be, as they say down here, "lagniappe." :)

But the other good finds were not to be found for me. Shanegalang got a really nice save with half of a good pre-CW spur. Then the heat got to us, and we called it a day. Here are some photos of our finds:

Stay cool out there, and Happy Hunting everyone!

Congrats to the Baking Bandits. Sweet sweet Spanish silver there Will.
I can't stand this hot humid weather. I was outside putting up a fence and trimming branches today up here in N. Indiana. Lost a lot of weight, but got wedgy #2 for the week. :laughing7:
I can't imagine how hot those cane fields are. You guys are diehards.
Have a great week,
DUHg

Sometimes we push it with the heat, but we're getting more used to knowing when enough is enough. This trip it was easy to quit. Sometimes it's hard to know when you should stop, if you're finding good relics and coins.

Best Wishes,

Buck

Thanks for sharing a nice dig and those pictures

Congrats on that well deserved silver! Nice looking buttonive only found a couple pewters with designs. Never seen a cane field, I would guess its as hot as when I'm crawling on all 4 in a corn field, it will take it out of you with the humidity and no air.

The One Real and the interesting pewter button are worth braving the heat! If you guys develop any info on the button, please push it out to all of us. Always enjoy the bandits' videos!

I know what you mean. That one nice find early in the day seems to satisfy, which makes the rest of the day more relaxed, gives kind of a ,take finds as they come attitude, cause you know you have already found a nice one!Nice finds

Thanks to all for your kind replies.

Nice haul! Love the silver.

Great job Buck on scrounging out that little silver in spite of the environmental elements working against you. Hope that's the start of more good finds to come. HH ..... Bill
