UpDate: I just cleaned the George (copper coin) and show it by the rose gold chain that I dug nearby about a month ago. The chain has already been posted here. So far I've held-off selling it...people love that chain!

Now the story....

After 40 years of hunting I finally find a large cent in Michigan! Two large cents no less.

I told the wife this year Michigan was going to give up a large cent to me but I never mentioned the country ;D

Don't know why but this old lumber camp site produced the cleaned "Vicky" last week (1900) and today's post is the George (1916). This is the same site I found that rose gold chain at last month. I've also dug lots of Indian cents and spoons, etc. But I thought these were the most interesting.

The 3-ringer wasn't dug in Michigan. That's just to see who reads this entire post. ;D

No biggie but I thought this was kind of cool finding these. I've never found one of these before anywhere.

Congrats Badger. Very nice finds. The only thing I found in Michigan last week was "Lunkers" fishing & hunting supply store. ;D

Absolutely beautiful finds congrats ;D

Re: Canadian Large Cents Found IN Michigan

If you want some current values on those, take a look at the prices from a Canadian coin dealer in Calgary, Alberta here:
http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/cdcent.htm
These prices are in Canadian currency and last I heard, the Canadian dollar is running at about 90 cents U.S., (if the coins are in good enough condition, I don't think your wife will be too disappointed).

Or use the coin values from here:

Nice coins. Those Canadian LC's are cool. I haven't found any with my metal detector but have about a dozen in my coin collection.

You find those with your Tejon? I am purchasing a Tejon for relic hunting. Should have it by the end of next week. Another toy. ;D

Hi Bob,

I found the uncleaned one (1916 George) with the Tejon and the 1900 Vicky with the Nautilus IIB. This was a lumber camp site and most likely a lumberjack lost them here. Many came down from Canada and from other parts of the world to work the camps. The dates would indicate the very last days of the lumbering for this area.

They were both only 3 inches deep and the Vicky was right on edge. I thought it was a token at first. As you can tell the Victoria was hit by a plow or something in the past. I had to straighten it and in so doing ruined the aged patina so I just cleaned it down to bare metal.

The 1916 George is now bright and shiny because it is destined for a jewelry pendant. Thanks to help from another TN member I found out the bezel for the eagle should fit it nicely with maybe a little help from a jeweler. I may mount it on the rose gold chain I dug about 10 feet from where I dug this George. My wife loves that chain!

You'll love the Tejon Bob and don't be too surprised if you end up using it for more than relics.

I don't think they're worth much MUD. Probably a dollar or less. But to me because I dug these they're worth $$$ ;D You know how that is.

Badger, nice finds! After detecting for a year and a half, I finally found a Canadian Large cent too. It good to see coins circulating from other countries. It makes me wonder what elses is rolling around in Michigan. Keep Diggin, J.
