Canadian Coin....I think... please help

I found this coin and it appears to say "victoria" around the side with a bust. It looks to have what appears to be a gladiator on the back. We think it was probably made mid 1800's from the location. We are pretty sure it's canadian also. Can someone ID this for me. sorry the pics are bad, I'll try to get better ones up. It appears to be copper, but could be gold I guess.
