Can you indentify the purpose of this nametag?

No apology necessary!!!! You did nothing wrong... I appreciate everyone's input.
I agree no apology necessary. GIB did nothing wrong. TN is a learning experience and because this thread is solved, it also solved the tags that GIB was finding, and Im sure he is grateful. And this thread will stay forever as a reference to help solve tags found by others and differentiate between charge tags and cremation tags. The What Is It Forum is a great reference to have online for North American artifacts.

Here are some examples of rectangle cremation tags. A modern cremation tag seems to always have the funeral home, mortuary or crematory name on it. Notice one misspelled.

Can we mark it SOLVED?

... I'm curious though why we found two tags with her name though? Thanks for the input... (Everyone)
I dont see any reason why there cant be duplicate charge plates. I guess they either lost them or tossed them both away at the same time.

I've looked up some of the names, and they are deceased, and mostly local. Not all have the full name and address. Some have just had a name.
I went back and re-read this thread in case I missed something. The only part that may not add up is the rectangle charge tags with just a name and no number (right pic). Because they are the exact same shape and size, along with the same arrow, this may be an in-completed charge tag. Im just guessing here but dumping charge tags in the ocean is kinda suspicious to me. People dump in the ocean to hide evidence. I think the possibility that this was a counterfeiting/fraud operation and thats why they were dumped in the sea. And the tags with just names are incomplete.

It all sounds interesting. If you start a new thread with more pics, we may be able to solve it. That is, if you are interested. At least you know now that some of the tags you are tossing back into deeper water are not cremation tags.

Her husband was Raymond Grabenstetter so maybe thats why it says Mrs. Ray Grabenstetter on the charge plate because Ray lived at that same address.
