I posted this in rocks and gems and haven't had any success yet, so I thought I would also post it here and maybe it will get a little more notice. You guys are good and I know someone has to have the answer to this. I found this rock some time back in Michigan in a place frequented by people from all over the world. In this area I have found coins from nearly every country you can think of. I am absolutely certain it is not from Michigan. It looks like it has been polished, like in a rock tumbler, and has a circle drawn on one end in marker, I assume this was done with the intention of cutting and cabbing the stone. It is a dark purple color and looks like it has glitter in it [more at one end then the other]. I hope someone can help me identify it. I have never seen one like it.

It looks like a polished man-made epoxy based specimen...

I think Scott is right-on with his answer. How to tell: Heat a sharp needle over a candle flame until it is red hot, then see if it will pierce the surface. If it does, it's acrylic/epoxy or the likes. Neat find! Breezie

It doesn't seem to be resin. I tried heating a pin and sticking it, nothing. It wont melt or scratch and it doesn't feel like resin.

Mmm, sounds like it's not resin. Do have a piece of quartz? If so, try to see if you can scratch it. Breezie
