Hello,

I was hoping to find some information about this bayonet. It is my father's, and he is looking to find out more about it. It may be called a GERMAN SPIKE from WWII???

On the scabbard it is stamped twice with a "P in a circle", and there is also a stamp of an "N".

On the area between the handle, and the blade it is stamped "2 53368". On the blade near the handle it has two markings a stamped "T in a circle", and a "S in a circle"

I took these pics with my blackberry, there not the best, but I will update them as soon as I can with my good camera.

Thanks for any info you have!!!

Good call, Catfish! That's definitely a better match, although the scabbard tip looks a bit different :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Dig, I guess we'll have to settle for "close call" on this one! :D

MAN! you guys are good!

I'll do some diggin' myself, and hopefully find an exact match. All are very close so far.

I read somewhere that after WWII there was a move to outlaw spike bayonets as being too cruel, much like outlawed "dum dum" rifle bullets. But I couldn't figure out how it would be worse to be stuck through and through with a spike or a long blade. I am guessing the spike would penetrate the bones into the chest cavity easier, but I'ver never tried it to see! ::) I collect Russian WWII rifles and the have spike bayonets. Monty
