My best guess is this is the top piece from a walking cane. It still has some wood in the hollow end and that seemed to be the most logical guess, however I could easily be wrong. Any other ideas or am I on the right track? And yes, I forgot the e in the title.

Could be a cane topper, or a curtain rod end, or an umbrella handle , or ... .. It's neat whatever it is!

It looks like there is a pattern around the top of it. If you could get a better pic of that it might help with ID. Also, was it in the ground? If there is wood still in it then it probably was not in the ground for very long. It is very shiny. Any idea on the type of metal? I think it would be more likely to be silver if from a cane and more likely to be something else if from an umbrella or curtain rod.

You can see plating flaking off and rust underneath but it could still be a cane topper but the size would determine that if not large enough it would be uncomfortable on the palm so if small I would go with other ideas.

Duggaps guess is a good one...

But GENERALLY speaking... decanter tops are more "bulbous"... or flared... OR lipped... for gripping.

I will go with cane top.
