Cleaning out my collection from the shed, but may hang this on in garage. For some reason, I don't want to part with it..
I forget what it's called (sorry. Should know better), but I was wondering if it could be dated.
I didn't know if the rosehead heads would be any kind of a clue. Or is another one of those " dates between 1700s and 1900s" like a horseshoe. 20190705_142514.jpg

Now come to think of it, is there anything that tells you this horseshoe is NOT 1700s? I've been working a Continental Army camp, and this was found on the remnants of road they built in camp. But I don't know that a horse didn't toss this in 1890 either. If I know it's later, I can toss with the others.
I figure it can't hurt to ask you guys..

Because the iron is well made, after the Civil War but probably before 1940.

It is called a singletree or a swingletree if you live across the pond.

It is called a singletree or a swingletree if you live across the pond.

Here the neck yoke and single tree are used on different ends of the horse. The neck yoke is used to hold the tongue of the wagon or drawn device for a team (two horses) up front and the single tree is used directly behind each horse and is hooked to the horses harness and they are then hooked to the double tree which then is hooked to what ever they are pulling. Single tree is used both with a team (two horses) or also with a single horse but the item being pulled would then have to have a double tongue up both sides of the horse which then is attached to the horses collar.

So are you saying that this is a neck yoke?
