Any markings on the back? Neat whatever it is!

I can not really see the markings on back. I did not want to try and clean it up because I wasnt sure if I'd ruin it. Any suggestions on how to clean it up. I believe it is copper.

I did a quick search on it and I couldn't find a picture of it. It might be a local medal for a sporting event.
you could do a light cleaning with heated hydrogen peroxide.
warm the HP to boiling in your microwave, remove from the MW and drop it in the solution. it will bubble, when it cools off, remove the medal and rinse it off

Looks like a pocket watch chain fob...

It's kinda shaped like a pocket watch too.

The eagle motif with the rays and the star seems like a common 1800s type theme...

How strange, I would have never have guessed. Having a loop on a poker chip :icon_scratch: :D

Yep! (Well, not exactly a poker chip, but essentially the same thing in usage.)

An identical piece is illustrated in the "Radiant Eagle Counters" section, pp. 30-31, of American Game Counters by Russell Rulau and George J. Fuld.
