Time frame is about right, but it's copper or brass, not tombac. Value is only a dollar or two so really not even worth considering. It's a nice find though, and a good sign there might be better things to come.

Welcome to Tnet. Like the other said the button is copper or brass not tombac. Tombac looks a bit like pewter and is a mix of copper and arsenic It dates late 1700's to early 1800's and like IP say is worth a couple dollars. These buttons are fairly common but if they are dug in an area there are usually better thing to be dug there. It's a nice button and I would be happy digging it.

what do you mean?

I think it ws fairly clear, not worth considering the sale or price of this one, as its very little. However, being late 18th century there are probably other nice things out there. (copper-alloy & not Tombac metal)

I like finding them & its nice to get the shank for a change but over here I wouldn't even get 50 cents for it.
