No, the Capitana didn't sink off the Isle de la Muerta; it sank off the coast of Chanduy.
Also, I doubt that cobs dated after 1652 were of significantly lower weight (or of lesser fineness of silver). The reason being that of the 42 persons directly connected with the Potosi mint and another 38 throughout the region were charged and convicted of fraud against the king. As was the law of the day, some were hung, others were beheaded, and a number went to prison or were banished into exile.
