A friend found this rock, we are in doubt if it could be a meteorite .. IMG_20210424_000328089_HDR~2.jpgIMG_20210423_233846205~2.jpgIMG_20210423_233813417~3.jpgIMG_20210424_000254138_HDR~2.jpgIMG_20210423_235441364~2.jpg

Thank's a lot!

It's a rock. :occasion14:

Your rock has no visible characteristics of meteorites. As to being attracted to a magnet, so is much of the gravel in my driveway.

Time for more coffee.

Is it possible to know, from the photos, what kind of rock it is?

You have a nodule, based on the yummy quartz center. Many types of nodules are named for localities. Others named for visual characteristics. Some I have no clue why they have a particular name.

Yes, it looks like quartz surrounded by some iron oxide.

Because of The Crystal Center , & Because I once purchased a Petrified Coconut that When I Broke it open Had a Hollow Center with Crystals.

When I see that , by shape , I think Some type of Petrified Fruit. Nut, Prune or Other :dontknow:

Meteorite :dontknow: I never heard of a Meteorite having a crystal center but I'm also not an expert

hi jeff,I had a few laughs with his coconut story but in this case I don't believe this is organic. It has iron characteristics ... so, according to what our colleagues posted above, I believe it is quartz with magnetite. I did a test by rubbing the stone on an abrasive surface, resulting in gray streaks!
thanks!

Melted metal blob. Obviously cut. Many metals have similar color.

Time for more coffee.

it looks like aluminum, it's light ... yes it was cut. It is interesting to find these things in the middle of the forest. I don't know if it would be an indication of being able to find something more meaningful. We have a lot of basalt formation here and a lot of stones from the signal on the detector..there is also a lot of clay and quartz ... in the case of the last post, I think it was actually a molten metal in some forest fire that slid down to the river ...

online they are sold as Mexican Coconut Geodes . I got mine at a Bloomsburg Fair rock stand many years ago

I don't think you have?, had? an actual petrified coconut. I think they're called that but aren't actually coconuts. I could be wrong. It almost happened once before.

yea this is the first time I actually googled it. I always went by What the Label said at the Stand "petrified coconut" if I remember right.
but I see Geode on google. I don't know what Geodes are created from, but I was always curious and is why I broke it open.
since coconuts are Much Bigger, I needed to know if I simply bought a round rock

the stone most like something organic we found ...IMG_20210430_115145345~2.jpgIMG_20210430_115130609~2.jpgIMG_20210430_115116339~2.jpgIMG_20210430_115050614~2.jpgIMG_20210430_114711330~2.jpgIMG_20210430_114700671~2.jpg

was it found near a old jet age military airfield.
i have found a number of pieces of alumiun that look like this at a jet age airforce gunnery range

jet age ,toward the end of World War II?
it really looks like molten aluminum but here there are no jets, no gunnery range .If I'm not mistaken, the melting point of aluminum is quite high. Most likely, struck by lightning ...
