Hi, Im new here. I usually buy, sell and collect American coins. But I was just browsing eBay and? decided to bid on this 8 Reales Spanish cob. I won the coin for $150.00.? The seller states he paid $350.00 for Approx. 12 grams of 14kt gold for the bezel. But for $150.00. The seller guaranteed it is authinic so I decided to chance it. Any ideas on where I can get ths coin certified, and any ideas as to why I'm the only one who bid on this coin?

RH I don't believe you can get this coin certified for anything except that it appears to be silver. If it were to be certifiedd, what would they certifie too? It was found on the beach and there are 15-20 wrecks out there and all of them had coins like this. The certification does not go by all the wrecks but by each individual one. Provenance must be given and facts of the find. The other issue is while he kept the coin as a casual find all certified coins of this type were brought up and examined by the archaeologists and certified from wreck divers.Mel fisher group still holds all the leases to the wrecks out there and he brings in coins every summer. These are the certified ones. Your is a souvenir type coin. I would still say you got a good deal. I would love to find one myself. Maybe one day I will or you will. Good luck and HH
