Doc

Been there. There are many ways of stretching fencing, both wire and panel (we raise cattle and hogs on our little piece of heaven, been there too)

All I am saying is that the device in question will perform in exactly the same way as the one dislpayed in Chagy's jpg. Use it as a miserably slow come along to pull your truck out of the mud or to strech a fence it's the same tool, only older.

Doc, I tended to side with you until I took a closer look at Chagy's "winching.jpg"

The thing WOULD work in the fashion shown in the picture (I'm too lazy to run through the gyrations in AutoCAD again, but could if need be)

Used in this fashion it appears that it could be 'ratcheted' along a length of chain, alternating purchase between the two 'dogs' to progressively increase tension with each link gained.........

I feel like Italy, but I'm switching sides.

Diggem' all I can do is say once more, look at the fencing link I posted. It would save a lot of time. You don't stretch a metal fence with a claw, you use a bar and attach the bar to a come-along with a chain. That picture of Chagys' is cropped and all you can see is the ratchet, and our object has no ratchet only a manual throw of not very much and it would twist. Wrong tool for the job, like trying to remove a nut with a hammer, you can do it but you destroy the nut. Check out the fencing link I posted, O.K.?

Doc

OK Doc. Since you haven't looked at the site link I posted as to the mechanics of the item, I will post the pictures. Here they are, in order.

It really is a low rent, manual come along. I'd hate to use it for anything but a small dog run or the like.

Hey Doc,
I just went through 25 pages of "Railroad Tool" images, and found nothing remotely similar to what we have here! Thi is what I found. The website is about every RR Tool in use, and the pic is of a RR Museum.

http://www.akrailroad.com/track_tools.html

The site even shows both one and two man "Timber Tongs" that are nothing like this.

Quite correct dig ,this is what I was referring to in the other post, but was too lazy to draw it.

Interesting, not to spur a dying mule, but where are the tools for handling ties and rails?

I'll bet Doc is going to spend all night looking through internet images, and old catalogs. He may admit to being wrong sometime this week! ;D ;D

Hey Hey! Don't pick on him (too much).

He's on a sinking ship this time, but I have agreed with him many times before, when everybody was against him.
