This broken octagonal(?) buckle seems to be made of cast brass with a hammered-out tongue, and measures about 1-11/16" across. There is a small raised bump on side, which is barely visible towards the top of the first photo. I have looked for photos of similar buckles and can't seem to find any of this shape.
Background info: it was found at an old Tennessee farmhouse located about 1 - 1.5 miles from a CW battlefield. The property ownership dates back to roughly 1800 and the farmhouse on the property dates to 1880. I have found a CW Infantry coat button and a musket(?) ball here, not to mention a lot of farm junk and horseshoes.
Does anyone recognize the style?
