Thank you. It could be a reproduction. I found it on Long Island next to where a late 18th early 19th century farm house used to be.Looks like a Type V shoe buckle depending on size. . See number 21 on this chart, for example. ADAMS is intriguing.. maybe a more modern reproduction??.

Thank you.I've seen Makers Marks on Buckle Chapes (shoe buckles normally) like that from the 18th C but normally just a letter or 2, nice to get a full word. Good find.
Thank you.Yeah, that looks like an oldie.

Unless I am mistaken, Crusader seems to think it is genuine, as he has seen buckles with makers marks on them. (I have not, but I have only found five or six buckles myself. ) He would certainly know better than I. If that is genuine, then you have a really nice old buckle. Sounds like you found it on a really old homesite too, which certainly supports it being authentic. Congrats!Thank you. It could be a reproduction. 100% sure its period & not modern. Probably pretty scarce type, might not even be published with that name.Unless I am mistaken, Crusader seems to think it is genuine, as he has seen buckles with makers marks on them.
