Can anyone ID this belt plate I found today? **Update 1850 militia panel plate**

***Got this email from 1 expert, two more are still reviewing it. Not nearly as much as we'd all hoped, but can't complain ;D...almost enough to by my new CZ3D for more relic hunting!:
Hi Aaron,
This is an 1850's era Militia style plate known as a Panel Plate,
Very Nice find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Value 300.00 to $500.00,
Here is a Picture of one I have on an original belt.
Thanks Stan Hughes

Got out hunting with Merf at an 1850's house. We asked the owner pretty late in the day after field hunting, so we didn't have much time. Found this belt plate about 6" down right where the front porch would have been. We have found a lot of civil war history in the area (mainly eagle buttons) can any ID this? And yes, I did gouge it >:(

I see no marks or writing on it.
Thanks for your help!

AMAZING ***BANNER*** FIND!!! :o
Far from the norm. Congrats to you on a super recovery. Looking forward to hearing the verdict on the value. Here's one in this CW relic book.
By the way, the reason Merf's drawers are so large is because he hauls all those old coins out of the fields in them. No one dares to look there if he's mugged! ;D

Here you go 1850's militia plate from Larry Hicklen, it is not a Texas plate.

That is a beautiful buckle!!! I would have been floating had I pulled that thing from the dirt. That is the best looking C.W. buckle I think I've seen on this site!!! Don't sell it for a while, I wouldn't sell it at all. I would think that the longer you keep it the greater idea you'll have of its value. But seriously, you'll spend the cash you made and in a year you probably won't even remember what you bought, but that buckle will be gone and you'll be thinking, "dam# it, I should have kept that mutha!!"

BANNER, definitely!

I agree. You'll be able to enjoy that find everyday...

Sweet find! I love old Buckles they just make my day. This one would of sent me on a happy dance few have ever seen. Now how do you nominate this for banner? Never had the urge to do so but this one is great.

Sorry guys.....I jumped the gun big time on this one, I thought it was a civil war Texas plate. According to Larry this is a common mistake made with these type of plates. The value is $300-$750 depending on the quality of the plate.

I was always told that was a Texas plate. Just because a book says different does not mean a thing! There is so much debate over this plate just because it is in a book saying different, well I would not write if off as being non Texas just yet. BTW that is only the second one I have seen come out of the ground in 16 years.

tis a grand find --whatever you want to call it * --- for most folks its a once in a life time type item * -- aww a MERE $500 type buckle --geez ;D

and several expert type folks do "differ" over this item's ID -- one says tomato the other says toemater.
guess it depends if their buying or selling --buying common milita plate $500 --selling texas plate $10,000

Still a great once in a lifetime find.CONGRATS!!!!! I would love to find any CW belt buckle or box plate.
So anyway you are still my HERO.
