HEY GUYS AND GALS! I FOUND THIS ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO IN A HUGE CAMP IN FAIRFAX VA. I HAVE NEVER FIGURED OUT WHAT IT I S. IT'S HAND MADE. VERY WELL MADE. FOUND AROUND UNION BELT PLATES VERMONT STUFF AND OHIO CIVIL WAR CAMP ITEMS. ANY GUESSES? THANKS.........DOUG

it went over the top of a bit on a horse.
it went over the horses nose. then on the bottom it was attached to a ring wich was attached by straps to the breast collar to keep the horse from throwing his head back.
if you look at the underside/inside of the moon shape it should be more smoothly worn where it rode on the horse.
i think im correct on this but ill have to search.
im guessing a man of importance or welth rode that horse.
