very cool. I have no idea, but if I were to guess, it looks like a livery item from a horse...

I was thinking the same thing...something used for/on a horse.

It sorta looks like the braid that went around a hat. Maybe too heavy for that?

Hi everyone, I'm new at this.
Could it be a Stirrup? Just a thought, kinda looks like it.
Also I'm in Arkansas if anyone is interested in showing a newbie the ropes.
I have been out maybe twice in the past two years. Maybe cause I'm not sure where to start and have been busy.
Great site and a lot of nice finds with good hearted people.

Yea... too frail to be a stirup... I agree.

However - I DO think it could be one side of (or, one handle) to purse handles, or a basket handles or ??. Both "eyes" at the ends are slightly bent in...

Just a thought.

It looks to me to be a Bronze Laurel Wreath. It represented the real ones that were given to Roman generals and emperors after a victory. It is often used on statues and memorials to glorify whomever is buried or represented by the statue.

Half of a laurel wreath:

Not unless they are Roman history loving Indians with a foundry?

This Neoclassical style was big in the 1800's and was used on hearses, grave monuments, monuments and statues. You can see it all over old cities and where there are a lot of monuments like Gettysburg. I do wonder what it could curve around?

I have seen things like it . but made of silver, by indians... under indian artifacts found...

My first impression was of a Door Knocker. Except that the hole alignment would keep it from swiveling.

Here's a couple of helmets with wreaths. One is Civil War Marines.

I wonder if it were part of a gorget? The size and placements of the holes in the metal are close to correct.
