Cavalry Pin ???

I went out digging in the hills today with my 73 year old mom (rock on mom!) The site has given up some goods but was a bit stingy today. One of the few finds today was this item that says CAL. The site had activity from about 1900 until the 1920's. The back side has 4 small loops on it like it is stitched onto something. Any thoughts on what this might be? Thanks for any help I can get.

I think you are confusing "calvary" (the hill outside Jerusalem on which Jesus was crucified) with "cavalry" (soldiers who fought on horseback).

I'm thinking California National Guard.

Oops. My bad. Late night posting.

It's an officers collar pin from the California Natl Guard, as Icewing said, I don't think I've seen a guard pin like it with the 4 loops before... I know that the WW2 era pins have the clutch back attachments, and the WW1 era pins I've seen have a single cross pin, so I think yours is earlier? It's a cool find!
