Calling All Cranberry Lovers - Need Help

This may be hard to believe, but I've never made cranberry sauce from scratch using fresh cranberries - yes, I'm guilty, I buy the one in the can that comes out in one big log ::) It's what my family has done for years and I really don't mind it, but I'd like to try something different this year. I've looked up a million recipes on-line, but don't have a lot of time before thanksgiving so I'd rather get a recipe that has been taste tested from people that I know that have cooked it themselves and like it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

Use the recipe that is on the package of the cranberries, that's what we've used for years & it's very good.

Cranberries
1 (12 oz) package cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
In a saucepan mix sugar and water. Bring to a boil and boil 5 minutes. Add cranberries, return to boil. Boil gently until their skins pop (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat. Refrigerate. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Happy Thanksgiving!

Wisconsin grows alot of cranberries here so we use them often.

I dont know if you are buying frozen ones or fresh ...but if they are frozen, most recipes say dont unthaw before using.

Creanberries should be bright to dark red...and a good one will bounce when dropped. Discard any brown, soft or yellowish ones...they will make your recipe bitter if not fully ripe.

If you are making a jelled recipe...boil just till skins burst then put on simmer

Sugar or added jello will make them sweeter ...I like the tangy taste but alot of people dont.

Cranberry Sauce
We use two cups fresh cranberries to one cup sugar to 1/2 cup water. Sort and wash cranberries, then place the cranberries, sugar and water in a saucepan and boil gently for 10 minutes or until the skins pop. Remove from heat, skim and serve hot, or allow to cool first. The sauce can be served gelled. After cooking pour into a serving dish and set to cool.

Try blending Mandarin Orange (drained) and chopped walnuts with fresh cooked cranberries (room temp).
